Childish and Naive

Day one hundred and twenty-five, Georgia. Underneath everything I am childish and naive.

So what. Jim Carrey built a career out of those two qualities, and somewhere along the way noticed how much of what we call a personality is simply the ego playing tricks. It is in Luke as well: whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.

I can decide who I am. I need this, and I need the feeling of being held. With those two the world is in order.

Thinking in the patterns of grown men doesn't make me happy. I did try. For twenty years I put real effort into living an ordinary life like everybody else, and I was not happy. The days had the consistency of cold porridge and the colour to match.

I am not saying this is the answer for anyone else. Everybody has their own work. One is an innkeeper, one a policeman, one a doctor, and every road is the right one if it feels right underfoot.

It only took me two decades to find out which one was mine.
